2013 Summer Vacation Reads: Links to Find Your Best Beach Book

Build your summer reading list with these resources.

Summer 2013 is here. You need beach books now.  And I'm searching for a vacation read.  We need recommendations!  Here are a few links to help all of us find a great book.

L.A. Times 2013 Summer Reading Guide
Lots of goodies to choose from on this list: fiction, YA, audio books and more.  Three that look good to me:
Bad Monkey, Carl Hiaasen
Blood & Beauty, Sarah Dunant
and,
Skinner, Charlie Houston (If you still haven't read Houston's book Caught Stealing, please do so. Immediately!)

Publishers Weekly Best Summer Books 2013
Some off-the-beaten path suggestions here. I'm interested in Visitation Street by Ivy Pochoda.

A Collection of Links from NPR for Summer Books
This page is a great resource for anyone looking for a book recommendation.  Check out all this links.  Nancy Pearl recommends Crashed by Timothy Hallinan.  So do I.

Kirkus Reviews:  10 Best Novels for Summer Reading
Many titles that look good on this list; The World of the End by Ofir Touche Gafla might be a book to check out

Summer Book Recommendations at Policymic
There are a number of links to check out at Policymic.  Gia Coturri has a post listing 10 recommendations, all of which look interesting.  In particular, I'm interested in The Light in the Ruins by Chris Bohjalian.

Laura Miller at Salon
Miller assembled a list of seven titles for you to consider.  She calls one, Save Yourself by Kelly Braffet, "this summer's must read."  And so I shall.  The book comes out in August.

NY Times 2013 Summer Reading
Hope you can access this article; the NYT allows only limited access to those who are not a subscriber.  I you can't read it, then I'll tell you my take-away idea from this article:  Check out Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan.

Hopefully something in these links sounded intriguing to you.  And I'd like to conclude with my own recommendation:  Read The Last Summer of the Camperdowns by Elizabeth Kelly.  It's terrific.

Father's Day 2013

Does your dad enjoy reading? is he into sports?  Then for Father's Day, consider getting him a copy of American Pastimes:  The Very Best of Red Smith.   I heard about it on ESPN radio this morning and the book sounds great.  Here is a link to a Sports Illustrated article about the book.   I'm going to check it out.
